In a family...

With this being a natural time of year to think about what we are thankful for, first-grade student Bailey Johnson wrote about "What My Family Means to Me" for an essay contest. This contest was open to all children in Kern County. Bailey received first place for her family's story.

In a family, you can feel loved, like I feel when my Mommy tucks me in to bed at night.

In a family you can feel safe, like I feel when my Daddy is holding my hand.

In a family you can feel special, like I feel when my big sister shows me off to her friends.

In a family you can feel happy, like I feel when my baby sister gives me hugs and kisses.

I feel very lucky to have a good family.
