I talk to several soldiers in the Persian Gulf by e-mail on a weekly -- if not daily -- basis. I served myself there during Operation Souther Watch.

What, you haven't heard of that? That brings me to my point.

While I was in the Gulf, we shot down three Iraq war planes and set up for a Navy Seal team to do some damage. That was not reported on the evening news, and neither are one-eighth of the events happening as we lay our heads down in our safe, heated homes and head off to work.

The soldiers are there protecting us from evils we do not give much thought to. Our soldiers and civilian contractors are risking their lives, day and night, to protect the unarmed population from war-mongers, insurgents and thieves waiting to capitalize on unsuspecting people.

They are there guarding the independent contractors repairing telephone, water and other public utilities. They are there trying to train the local police and Iraq soldiers to have morals, a radically new values system, and to protect the right to vote.

It is a shame to see so little coverage. There are so many soldiers from our area. Almost everyone I know seems to have a family member or friend in Iraq.

I will keep writing my friends, and I hope you do, too. I hope we can come together and urge more coverage for our troops. Perhaps we can support them with prayer and send them thank you letters and aid packages.

Get involved now, because no one knows when or where the next homeland attack may be. I hope my plea will be heard. Rosedale is full of great families. I'm so glad that a disabled veteran like myself was able to get a home here. Every night I think of my fellow soldiers and where they will be "bunking down" for the night, and how much I wish I could be there right now.

I will be posting onto my blog "Rant, Muse, Meditations of a Christian, a Internet Marketing Rep & Friends" (http://damianoconsulting.bl...) if you want to follow the letters to my friends.
