With twinkling eyes, plaster and heart into their projects, Meghan Gormann and Angie Alleman stride to the front of their classroom -- their classroom if only for 30 minutes. Excitement is written all over their faces. Angie passes out paper bags containing plaster, instructions and a cup while Meghan begins talking about the evolution of the horse.
Then Curtis Reedy and Issac Bryson step up to the plate with their solar powered car in tow. Curtis loves explaining electromagnetics, while Issac prefers answering questions. Everyone is impressed.
Both teams received As and advanced to the next level. "This isn't really where it started, though. It all started with my Exploratorium project last year," said Curtis. Meghan said the idea for her project started from her love of horses and public speaking.
Since it opened, Freedom has done an Exploratorium every year because everyone wins. Whether your research starts in a laboratory or in your garage, like Curtis and Issac's, you learn something, something that could determine your future. Isn't that what winning is all about?
