The Exchange Club of Bakersfield announces the winners of the Annual Search For Talent Contest.

For approximately 60 years, The Exchange Club of Bakersfield has put on the Annual Search For Talent contest.

Children and teenagers between the ages of 6 and 18 either sing, dance, play an instrument, or present a novelty act as a solo, duet or trio. There are three age divisions. The Primary Division is for children between the ages of 6 and 9, the Junior Division is for those between 10 to 14 and the Senior Division is for teenagers 15 to 18.

This year’s contest was held at North High School on March 17. Jeffrey Schwartz, emcee, kept the evening moving along quickly; Christopher Puckett beautifully performed the National Anthem.

Judges for the event were Nellis Johnson, Jessica Barr, Duncan Low, Roland Brown, and Donna Schwartz. Sue Johnson was the coordinator.

This year, 53 acts of solos, duet, or trios and seven exhibitions performed. Kern County has tremendously talented kids and the best of the best were in the contest.
The performers were Christopher Puckett singing two songs and great dances from Dancer’s Workshop and Dancer’s Turnout.

There were six categories recognized: vocal, vocal duet, instrumental, dance, dance-acro & novelty. Trophies were awarded for first place and ribbons for second-, third- and fourth-places. A Sweepstakes Trophy was given to the contestants with the top score in each division.

There was one sweepstakes winner in the primary division, one in the junior division and one in the senior division. It doesn’t matter which category they performed in. The sweepstakes winner, the first runner-up and the second runner-up in each division will go to the Exchange Club’s Regional Competition in Ridgecrest on May 6.

The top winner in each division at the regional’s contest will go to the district’s (state) contest on June 23 at the Fantasy Springs Resort in Indio for a chance to win a scholarship .
