The sixth-graders at Rosedale North Elementary School recently returned from their trip to Camp KEEP Ocean at Montaña de Oro State Park. They had a terrific time hiking and exploring the many different ecosystems. The nearly 80 students were joined by 24 sixth-graders from DiGiorgio School. The students stayed in trailers with their counselors. They joined together into hiking groups to visit the dunes, tide pools, Islay Creek and Junior Valencia Mountain. A day-long trip to the Morro Bay Estuary was also included.
After the hikes, the students spent time with their teachers during teacher hour. This was followed by free time. During free time, some students were scheduled for showers. Some could take an optional shower. Others had an hour to play volleyball, basketball, ping-pong or many other choices. Dinner followed and the food was great! After dinner the students participated in an evening program and games to continue their learning. The day came to a close around the campfire, where songs were sung and stories were told. Despite one day of pouring rain, everyone enjoyed the week.
