Hello, friends & neighbors!

The holidays are here! I love Thanksgiving! I hope you all have plans to enjoy food, fun, and family this coming week.

Speaking of Thanksgiving, when you go out shopping (along with me) on Black Friday, please choose one extra toy for a child (or teenager) for our upcoming toy drive. Then, save it, and bring it to me on Dec. 11 at Chuy's (from 6-9 p.m.) for our Northwest Voice Gives Back night benefiting Toys for Tots!  We are partnering with the U.S. Marine Reserves and the Young Marines to collect as many toys as we can!  Can't make it to Chuy's?  Send me an e-mail, and we will find some way to collect your donation!

The deadline for the upcoming issue is on Sunday at 6 p.m. this week due to the shortened holiday schedule, and I want to thank everyone who already contributed their great community service stories!  The issue is nearly finished and looks great!

I hope you are enjoying the NEW issue, though, that should have arrived in the mail by now.  It's our special Senior Citizen Salute!  If you haven't had a chance to look at it yet, here are the highlights:

Celebrating the Golden Years!

Senior contributor Dick Laughman was the winner of our cover photo contest, and that's a photo of Dick with his wife Bev and their grandson, Caleb. Great photo!

  • Dick also gave us a special treat with his story "Grandpa, your words are putting air on me."
  • Regular columnist Caroline Reid wow'd us with her hilarious article on senior moments!  No matter your age, you are sure to recognize and laugh at some of her "moments."
  • Photos galore! I put out a call for photos, and NW Bakersfield responded! Check out the photos readers contributed of their special seniors.
  • Full Circle: That's what our not-very-senior sports columnist Michael Elliott has experienced in the GREAT sport of baseball!
  • Olive Drive held a special Grandparent's Day celebration!  Click here to read the story and see photos from the event.

That's all for now!  Enjoy your weekend and especially your Thanksgiving, and look for more e-mail from me next week for another of our great Northwest Voice giveaways!

Happy Thanksgiving week!

Dana
