The first graders at Highland Elementary were very excited to have Dana
Martin, editor of Northwest Voice, visit their classrooms in November. She spoke with the students about writing and how important it is to practice writing now, even in first grade. The first graders loved hearing her story about J.K. Rowling and how much money she gets paid for writing about Harry Potter. Mrs. Martin asked them if they would like to one day get paid to write their ideas down.Of course, they all agreed by raising their hands!
Highland often has guest presenters visit and speak about their jobs in the
community. This partnership with the community inspires students to strive to be their very best. The students get a chance to hear about a career they may wish to have one day. They also get reminded of the importance of education when the guests tell them they went to college. Partnership with the community is very crucial to keeping students motivated to do well in school. The students and staff at Highland Elementary appreciate the community help they receive and look forward to continuing such a great tradition!
