I find myself going around thinking about a million things at the same time and trying to get everything done. The other day I was getting ready to go out and do some errands. I had just washed and dried my hair and decided to call a friend to see if she wanted to go to a movie later on. I went to the den and picked up the phone and then remembered I had not looked at the back and sides of my hair with my hand mirror after I fixed it.

I walked back to the bathroom, phone in hand, and turned my back to the bathroom mirror and held the phone up so I could see the back of my hair. Totally confused for a second, I wondered what in the world happened to the mirror! Then I looked at my hand and saw the phone.

I actually laughed out loud at myself, with myself, and about myself!

After finding the mirror and inspecting my hair, I saw the phone sitting on the bathroom counter and wondered aloud, “How did that get there?”

Within seconds, I remembered I was going to call someone but I couldn’t remember who!

Just then the phone rang and my daughter called to ask me if I wanted to go to lunch.

“Sure,” I said. “But was I supposed to call you back or something?”

“Mom, we haven’t talked on the phone in two days. Call me back for what? You did call me back — two days ago! I just thought it would be fun to go to lunch. I’ll meet you at Jake’s.”

Good idea. I was glad I had just done my hair. I jumped in the car and even remembered to take my list of errands to do afterwards.

Driving down Truxtun, I glanced at the passenger seat because I saw something unfamiliar out of the corner of my eye. Sitting there looking lonely and useless was my home phone. No, I didn’t pick it up and try to call my friend about the movie, but it did cross my mind! Just briefly!

Caroline, thank you for keeping this to yourself until our senior citizen issue came out. I (and everyone else at the office) laughed out loud at this. Each time I think of you looking over in the passenger seat and seeing that phone, I crack up! Very well done... excellent writing. Your best yet!

You inherited that from Dad. Remember when the electricity went out and he lit a candle, went into the bathroom and plugged in his electric razor?
