Four published authors will be guest speakers at the annual Writers of Kern Workshop.

Mike Russo of Russo’s Marketplace will open the workshop — scheduled from 8 a.m. to 1 p.m., Saturday, March 18 at the Best Western Motel on Buck Owens Boulevard — followed by local authors, Terry Redman and Susan Stewart, who will speak on self-publishing.
Sherri L. Smith — whose young adult novel, “Lucy the Giant” received the American Library Association Best Book for Young Adults award; Smith is also the author of “Sparrow,” which will be released by Random House in July — will speak on what makes a young adult book.
Tom Sawyer — fiction writer and former head writer for the TV series, “Murder, She Wrote” — will speak next.
Sawyer has been involved in writing many pilots for television series and has also written several novels.
The writers workshop is open to the public. Cost is $25 for Writers of Kern members; $35 for non-members. You may pay at the door.
Coffee, donuts, rolls, etc. will be provided.
At the end of the workshop, the speakers and members of Writers of Kern will have their books on display for the attendees to browse, purchase and have autographed by the author.
