National speaker presents stepfamily seminar

0 responses 0 comments Nationally known author and speaker Ron Deal will be in Bakersfield in November to present the "Building a Successful Stepfamily" seminar. This will be a practical seminar for stepfamily adults (both parents and adult children), pre-remarriage couples, single parents, counselors and church leaders.

Deal is the president and founder of Successful Stepfamilies, an organization that empowers remarried couples and stepfamilies and equips churches for stepfamily ministry. He is author of the book, "The Smart Stepfamily: Seven Steps to a Healthy Family," and creator/presenter of the "Building A Successful Stepfamily" seminar.

Deal serves as Family Life Minister for the Southwest Church of Christ and is a marriage and family therapist with the Better Life Counseling Center, Inc. in Jonesboro, Arkansas. He is a licensed marriage and family therapist and licensed professional counselor, a certified family life educator, and a member of the Stepfamily Association of America's Advisory Council and Institute Faculty. Deal and his wife, Nan, are also members of the national advisory board for The Association of Marriage and Family Ministries.

Deal's media appearances to address the needs of stepfamilies include radio programs such as "Focus on the Family," "Family Life Today" with Dennis Rainey, "Live the Life" with AACC president Dr. Tim Clinton, "Josh McDowell Radio," and the national TV programs "Reality Talks" with Dr. Kevin Leman and "At Home Live." He has written feature family and ministry articles addressing a variety of family matters for a number of publications and online magazines.

Deal has spoken at the National Stepfamily Conference, the American Association of Christian Counselors World Conference, the national Smart Marriages, Happy Families conference, and both the Utah and Arkansas governors' conferences on the family. He and Nan have three boys.

RiverLakes Community Church will be hosting the seminar, which will begin on Friday evening, Nov.12, and conclude on Saturday afternoon, Nov. 13th. The cost is $75 per couple and $40 per single, which includes workbook, lunch and refreshments. Childcare will be provided at no additional cost by prearrangement only. Also, on Friday, Nov.12, from 2 to 4 p.m., Deal will be offering a free workshop for public, private and Sunday school teachers, pastors, church staff and counselors. There is no cost for the two-hour workshop, but we do ask that you register in advance by calling 589-9733.
