2008 certainly has been an extraordinaire year already. In february I went to Bakersfield to study contributing journalism and in August I finished my master thesis about "The Hyperlocal Journalist" and are after two years of studying now a Master in Media Management.
My thesis is about the core of contributing journalism as it apears ind The Northwest Voice, The Southwest Voice and the Danish, regional newspaper Jydske Vestkysten (www.jv.dk). The Voice's was among the first new social media which combine local enthusiasm, new internet possibilities and old print media and so is the Danish newspaper Jydske Vestkysten.
”The Hyperlocal Journalist” is a master thesis about the news values, editorial roles and duties and considerations a media firm must do before entering a hyperlocal project. The thesis takes the reader through the media historical development and tells how public journalism evolved into participatory, usergenerated and hyperlocal journalism. It also tells about the democratic perspective of journalism when the citizens becomes contributors of content to the media.
I have learned that this kind of participating journalism is build of values as : immediacy, relevance, individuality/character, harmony, familiarity and passion. And the editor of hyperlocal contributors both has to contain editorial managing competences as well as be able to lead through supporting and recognizing leadership.
My observations and interviews from Bakersfield is a precious part of the thesis, and I thank you all for standing up for me.
In friendship and I hope to be back some day.
