Happy Labor Day!

I hope you all had a relaxing weekend! With the barbecue put away and the pool toys tuckered out, it's time for me to get back to work -- one day late!  I usually send this newsletter on Sunday, reminding people two full days in advance of the deadline to submit their "stuff" to the Northwest Voice site for the upcoming issue, but like many of you, I was taking a much-needed break this weekend.  However, what that means is that your submissions for the September 10th issue of The Northwest Voice are due TOMORROW!

Deadline: Tuesday, September 2nd at midnight!

What might we need for this issue? Your choice!  Here are some examples:

  • Birthday/anniversary celebration photos
  • Educator of the Month nominations
  • Athlete of the Month nominations
  • Political ramblings and opinions
  • Reports on upcoming school fundraisers
  • Recipes!
  • Funny stories
  • Heartwarming observations
  • Events/announcements

Are you training for the Volkslauf?  I am!  Check out my blog and read about my Volkslauf training and about the outcome of my jury duty service.  Then, if you feel inspired, create your own blog today, and get people reading about your life!  I want to read about YOUR Volkslauf training!

Attention teachers/school administrators:

As the editor of The Northwest Voice, one of my favorite duties is to visit Northwest schools and talk about what I do!  Some schools call it Career Day, but other schools just want me to speak about the writing process (book readers make the best writers!) and explain how to become a better writer.  Please feel free to call me (716-8639) or email me to schedule a site visit.

Ok, I've put it off long enough... Have you SEEN the new issue??

It's our BIKING IN BAKO issue!

This issue is filled with great info for our bicycle-riding enthusiasts! Check out:

1. Tips on bike riding safety submitted by Bike Bakersfield

2. The incredible cover story written by longtime Northwest Voice community contributor Rob Berry.

3. Our Biking in Bako photos -- all submitted by people living in Northwest Bakersfield. On the cover is our "winner" selected among all entries.

4. Northwest blogger and bicyclist Bryan Jackson shares his experience sharing the road with motorized vehicles.

To have YOUR story or YOUR photo included in a future issue of The Northwest Voice, you don't have to be a writer -- writing doesn't need to be your hobby or even something at which you excel.  All you have to do is write what is important to you, even if you don't think you're "that great" of a writer.  We have a team of people in the office whose job it is to MAKE YOU LOOK GOOD!

If you don't write it, it doesn't get published!

Upcoming issues:

In an upcoming issue, we will be running a special "senior citizen" issue, full of great information, stories, and photos of our wonderful Northwest seniors.  Please keep an eye out for the newsletter asking for photos, stories, celebrations, and activities solely dedicated to our thriving senior citizen community.  Are YOU a senior citizen?  Let's hear from you!  Get those fingers moving and send me your stories or recipes, or ... what about a list of special discounts or freebies reserved only for our "over 55" set?  You can contribute online anytime, and I will include anything you submit in our big senior citizen issue.

*If you are receiving this newsletter and know a senior citizen who may be interested in contributing something to our special issue, please forward this to that person so that they may join in the fun! All they need to do is register to be a Web site user, then post something!

That's all for now.  I thought this was going to be quick, but I always remember so many things I want to share.

As always, if you ever have any questions or comments, please feel free to email me and let me help you.

Take care & have a good week,

Dana
