Greetings!
As many of us are aware, the dog & cat over population problem is an ongoing issue in Kern County. The Bakersfield Californian has created "Tails of Bakersfield," which is a program to showcase our pets in the pages of The Californian for just $10 (all of the proceeds go directly to the shelter of our choice).
Now, The Northwest Voice, in conjunction with our friends at NOR, San Joaquin Veterinary Hospital and ALPHA Canine Sanctuary, is excited to help the cause!
What began as an office idea just to collect blankets, toys, and aluminum cans for the shelters has blossomed into a full-fleged event to help raise awareness about the pet population problem, raise money and items needed for shelters, and reiterate the need to get our cats and dogs spayed and neutered.
From 8-11 a.m. on August 16 at the San Lauren off leash dog park (Krebs/Mohawk), there will be a 3-hour event in which we are asking our neighbors to come out with your coffee, your dogs, and any items you can donate to shelters... and join with us in putting at least a small dent in this ongoing problem.
Shelters need:
* blankets/sheets
* paper towels
* dog toys
* dry dog food and dry cat food
* aluminum cans (for recycling money!)
* Spay & neuter vouchers
* MONEY!
Come join the editor and other members of The Northwest Voice staff for a morning dedicated to a great cause! San Joaquin Veterinary Hospital will be on hand to answer questions about geriatric dog care and preventable diseases. The SPCA will also be in attendance.

Eddy, all the information is in the post. Please click on the flier. Besides, I plan on sending a newsletter and talking a lot more about this before Aug. 16. Thanks, Jen... I hope to meet Santa and/or Darkie! :)
