The Liberty High School Chorale started the school year with a rousing performance at the Concert for America last Saturday, Sept. 11. The choir sang patriotic standards such as, "From Sea to Shining Sea," as well as a moving rendition of "Battle Hymn of the Republic" that received a standing ovation. "It's a testament to the talent and dedication of our students that they were able to perform at an event of this caliber less than two weeks after the start of school," said Michael McQuerrey, choir director for Liberty High School.
Liberty High School has the largest choir program in the Kern High School District, but the program needs the community's help to continue making beautiful music. As of September 13, the LHS choir program does not have an accompanist. Kern High School District has advertised the position but has been unable to fill it due to a lack of response. If you, or someone you know, is interested in becoming a strategic member of the Liberty choir program, please contact the Kern High School District at 827-3160 for details.
Liberty also has an active choir booster group. The choir boosters raise funds for sheet music, scholarships and travel costs and have committed to assist in the replacement of the aged concert grand piano. The choir boosters meet the first Monday of each month in the choir room on the LHS campus and everyone is welcome to attend. For additional information on the LHS choir boosters or if you or your company can contribute to our piano fund, contact Debbie Reagan at 588-5842.
Come see the Liberty choir program in action. The first concert this year is the Fall Festival Concert on Thursday, Oct. 21 at 7:30 p.m. The concert is held in the Liberty Performing Arts Center at 925 Jewetta Ave., and a $1 donation is requested at the door.
