As parents of two daughters, ages 12 and 24, we get comments about how cool it is that we like the same things they do, especially when it comes to music.
Well, what is there not to like about Christian rock? Most kids can't even tell the difference between a secular and Christian rock band anymore, especially because most have gone mainstream. I am not terribly keen on that, but hey, they have bills to pay, too.
Anyway parents, if you want to get involved and know what your kids are listening to, try attending a Christian rock concert. I know most parents my age don't want to listen to Scremo (we like them, by the way), but there is a message there: Jesus loves you, me, and all of us. He died on the cross for us.
Another suggestion is to try a three-day getaway to a Christian music festival/retreat, like Spirit West Coast in Del Mar (May) or Monterey (August) or Joshua Fest in Quincy (September). They take place everywhere, and they are wonderful. The parents have a great time and so do the kids., and it all revolves around the most important element in the world, God.
On July 12, I will be hosting the Extreme Tour 2006 here in Bakersfield. If you want to get involved as a family, this is a ministry program/Christian rock concert. Please keep this in mind. You will not regret it, and it might even bring you closer as a family. I know because it happened to us. God bless to all.
