Yearbooks are special to many people because they not only keep memories alive, but also are considered annual historical reference books. As you may be aware, many of our students do not come from the most affluent of families, and it is quite a monetary challenge and sacrifice for them to pay for extracurricular school expenses like yearbooks. We, on the yearbook staff, are always trying to find ways to offset some of these costs for North High School students.

The 2008 yearbook cost $55 dollars per book to produce, while trying to create a quality book that is fairly priced. We would like our yearbooks to improve each year by keeping up with modern techniques. To accomplish this, we need to be able to invest in better equipment, like cameras and photo scanners, and attend yearbook camps to be trained in the latest computer and photo trends.

A new digital camera and lens purchased this year was stolen a couple of months ago. The money we used to purchase it took years of yearbook sales, profiting only a small amount each year, in order to build up enough in our account to update our equipment. Unlike some sports teams, we do not receive additional financing from parent booster clubs or team sponsors.

In an attempt to raise additional funds and reach our goal of improving our yearbooks and keeping student costs at a minimum, we, the North High School yearbook staff and Forensics Club, will be participating in the Big Lots Tent event this Memorial Day weekend, May 24 through 26, in the Northwest Big Lots, 1211 Olive Drive, from 10 a.m. to 6 p.m.

We will be selling leftover NHS yearbooks (1955 through 2006) for $55 to $75. We also will be selling hot dog meals, baked goods, and offer face painting. We would truly appreciate any community support for these two worthy local school programs!
