I wanted to give you something extra special this year for Mother's Day.  I wanted to say thank you.  And you say, "Thank you for what?"  Well, read on and you will see.

As I sit here typing you this thank you note, I think back of all the "things" you taught me.  I realize that now, after 40 years that everything you instilled in me through my years of growing up, I use today and continue to pass on to my children.

I want to thank you for your constant nagging, constant worrying, and constant love and most importantly your constant dedication to me, my children and husband. I know that I would not be the woman I am today if it were not for you being the strong woman that you were as I was growing up.

You instilled in me a sense of pride, and a sense of responsibility. I am now passing all the knowledge that you gave to me as a child onto my children today. I am teaching them that success does not come easy, that doing what I say I am going to do is everything, and that trying is not good enough – it is doing my best that is everything. That paying your bills is the cornerstone to a good and happy life. And finally hard work pays off!  Just do it!

You took us from being on Government assistance to where we are today and you did it by dedicating yourself to striving for excellence in getting your education and becoming a teacher for the prison system. When “Daddy” passed away in 1973, we were put on Social Security. You decided then that you were not just going to settle for what others dictated we should receive to live on, but you were going to change our circumstances around for the better and become someone better in society, a role model, a teacher.

You taught me a lot in my 18 years of living with you and now that I know you in my adult years, I appreciate all those - I thought back then - “Nagging sessions.” You instilled in me a sense of pride – to take care of the “things” we purchased so that we do not have to replace them. You instilled in me cleanliness, order and urgency. You have given me so much in life and I want to take this time to tell you.

Thank you for being the Best Mother that you could possibly be to me. Thank you for choosing me to raise as your own. Thank you for loving me the best way you knew how. Thank you for being a wonderful roll model to me and leading me back on the straight and narrow, even when I tended to wonder off. Thank you for instilling me the power of prayer. Thank you for teaching me to pay my bills and the importance of having good credit. Thank you for teaching me how to clean. Thank you for being you.

I love you Mom. You’re the Greatest!

Love Always,
Your daughter Linda Blanchette Gee Turner

Moms really do teach us much! Your Mother's Day note really got me thinking. Recently my son turned 7, and I realized that during the seven years of his lifetime I have learned a wealth of knowledge. Though perhaps it’s more accurate to say that I realized how true much of what my mom taught and modeled for me finally gelled. I’m thankful for her endurance, her strength, her methods of motherhood, her flexibility, her sense of femininity… I owe a lot to her.
