Do not pay too much credence to those pre-season baseball and softball records at Liberty High! All that counts now are league records. Both teams sport spotless 6-0 SEYL records. Best Bakersfield example of this for years has been Gino Lacava’s Garces High basketball teams — pretty good non-league records, stellar league records! And they are perennial league champs and state playoff qualifiers. Pats on the back for the Pats.
Frontier High’s standout golfer Chase Goodvin is out of action due to appendix surgery. Hope he has a speedy recovery. Once he’s back, the “chase” will undoubtedly be on!
It would be remiss for this column not to recognize the outstanding job the BC women’s tennis team is doing as they lurk near the top of the WSC with a sparkling 10-2 league record. You go girls!
Centennial’s baseball team looked jittery as Stockdale High seized command of the tough SWYL by defeating the Golden Hawks 12-6. Home field advantage swings to Centennial in the May rematch. It will be gut-check time for CHS.
Frontier football will flourish under new head coach Rich Cornford!
Liberty’s Cassidy Bell chimes in with a softball batting average at least 100 percentage points above her next competitor!
Centennial’s Dusty Robinson’s 12 homeruns are near tops in the nation! Teammate Jarret Martin is only one behind.
