Every year, billions of pounds of plastic shopping bags needlessly end up in the landfill or as litter. To help reduce the environmental impact that plastic bags create, Wal-Mart sponsored a "Kids Recycling Challenge." For each 60 gallon filled collection bag brought in, Wal-Mart pays the school $5.00. More than 170 collection bags were filled by Olive Drive Elementary School families. The Olive Drive Blazers earned over $850. for their recycling effort!
A special thank you goes to Kelly Balzer for being in charge of this exciting fund raising effort. She collected the bags at the school, stored them at home and then turned them in at Wal-Mart. Way to go Kelly and Olive Drive Elementary!!
We salute Wal-Mart for their efforts to help our environment and educate our young people about the benefits of recycling. The program has ended for this school year, but families can continue their recycling efforts at home!
