Over the past few years, many people have had to travel over the tracks on Norris Road near Roberts Lane every day. Grumbling about the bumps and jerks that the buckled blacktop caused them and their vehicles was common. My own experience taught me to almost come to a full stop before venturing those tracks, which, at times, puzzled those behind me who were not familiar with this problem.
At last, a brave soul put a large, red-lettered, hand-made sign on the side of the road. It simply read “Fix Road.” An orange cone accompanied it. The chain of events that followed this act got the job done quickly. On a Sunday, a friend called to tell me about the sign, which triggered my jumping into my car to photograph the sign. While snapping the picture, a man drove by, honked and gave me a thumbs up!
On Monday morning, I dropped the photo off with Loron Hodge, who was working in the Norris Road Field Office for supervisor Mike Maggard. Loron gave it to Maggard, who presented it at a meeting, which included the roads people. In one week, the area around the railroad tracks was put in good condition.
Thank you to that courageous person who took action putting up the sign, to Sue Lange who informed me, and to Loron Hodge who quickly delivered the picture to our supervisor. Thank you to supervisor Maggard for his immediate attention, which caused the road to be fixed the next week.
A second situation developed on Manor Street. Although the street was resurfaced last year, the painted white lines were already worn and almost impossible to see in wet weather. It became a safety hazard. Once again, our supervisor was informed and within days the lines were repainted.
We applaud supervisor Maggard! Our community appreciates him and his staff for caring and for the effort it took to get these jobs done without delay.
