Freedom Middle School

Color Guard & Dance Teams

SUMMER DAY CAMP

The Freedom Middle School Color Guard and Dance teams are getting ready for the third annual summer day camp. This year's camp will be held from Monday, Aug. 9, through Thursday, Aug. 12, from 9 a.m. to 2:30 p.m. at the Rosedale Middle School gym and cafeteria. The camp is open to any student entering fourth through eighth grade next year.

Dak Eubanks of Studio del Sol will be the guest dance instructor. In local competitions, the teams from Studio del Sol consistently rank extremely high in their skills and choreography. Dak will be teaching basic dance technique and will be choreographing a dance number that will be performed at the Kern County Fair as well as other school events.

Other instructors will be coaches from the Freedom Middle School Color Guard and Dance Teams. They are Jessica Parker, Sean Farrell, Jennifer Garcia, Kendra Ross and Steffani Murer. The advisor is Donna Schwartz.

Camp will start with a great warm up by Dak Eubanks and will include dance, flag and rifle technique. There will be marching practice with drill downs, goofy games and silly sports. Each age level will learn a routine that will be performed on the last day of camp at the Camp Show and Awards Presentation. Students will have many opportunities throughout camp to win ribbons and awards for their hard work.

Color Guard is a marching unit that performs with the band or alone using dance, flags, rifles, sabers, or props. Winter Guard, which begins in February and ends in May, is the art of putting all of these elements together in an approximately three to four-minute performance.

Freedom Middle School Color Guard Teams, Junior Falcons, students from the feeder schools of Almondale, Patriot, and Rosedale North Elementary Schools, and the Freedom Middle School Dance Team would like to thank the community for their support over the last three years. Many businesses and individuals have been sponsors of these groups and we would not have been as successful as we have without that support.
