Norris 2008 summer school
Lisa Limpias (seventh grade dean at Norris Middle School) and Michele Bryant (sixth grade dean at Norris Middle School) will share the Norris School District Summer School principal position for 2008. Limpias and Bryant will be announcing the schedule dates, staffing and sign-up process in the near future. Norris District Summer School is a short day program encompassing the four weeks after the regular school year, usually ending the first week in July.

Kindergarten registration
The Norris School District will begin taking kindergarten registrations at all four elementary schools (Bimat, Norris, Olive Drive and Veterans) for the 2008-09 school year beginning on Monday, March 3. The packet that parents need is extensive and will take some preparation.  Our experience has been that doctors and dentists get busy right before school starts when everyone realizes they can’t get into school without the physical and dental exam … so plan ahead! Only fully completed and returned packets will reserve an available student slot at a school. Because of the rapid growth in the Norris School District, it is likely some school sites will fill to their available kindergarten capacity. Late registrants may have to attend other schools in the district once their grade level is full.

Let the district know if you are leaving
Every summer the Norris District fills up with newly registering students moving into the district.  At every school, grade levels fill up because the district is trying to maintain low class sizes.  Many families are sent to other schools within the district or are faced with splitting up their children between schools that have classroom space. Once the school year begins, schools discover families have moved without giving notification. In other words, many kids didn’t need to be moved to other schools. To help solve this problem, Norris is implementing a policy beginning with the 2008-09 school year that allows any student who does not show up the first day of school to be dropped from enrollment. If a family knows they will miss the first day of classes, they need to inform the school or risk finding their late-arriving child must be registered at another school where there is space.

Extended Day Class (before and after school day care) registration
Registration for the Norris School District Extended Day Class (EDC) program will begin March 25 for the 2008-09 school year. Registration will take place at the Norris School District office located at 6940 Calloway Drive. The district office is open from 7:30 a.m. to 4 p.m. and will begin registration promptly at 7:30 a.m. If you are unable to register the first day, stop by the district office anytime during work hours. Priority will be given to those families currently enrolled whose accounts are in good standing. Siblings of enrolled students will also qualify for priority enrollment. Priority registration will conclude on April 11.

A non-refundable deposit of $35 per child is due at the time of registration. Upon registration, a packet will be given that must be returned with first month’s tuition no later than five workdays prior to August 18. All applications will be dated when completed and received on a first come, first served basis. Registration will close when each site is full. If the program at a site is full, you will be placed on a waiting list and will be contacted when a vacancy becomes available. There is no fee to be on the waiting list.

Norris 2008 Summer Day Camp Program for day care
This summer, the Norris School District is going to offer summer day care in their Summer Day Camp Program for students that attend Norris District schools during the school year.  This self-supporting program will be located on one or more Norris District elementary campuses.  The number of sites and their locations will depend on how many students register and pay for the service.  Hours for the camp will be 7 a.m. to 5:45 p.m. Registration will be from May 19 through May 23 at the Norris School District office.

As a convenience and to help families with their summer scheduling, there will be three Summer Day Camp sessions:

Session I:     June 2 – June 27    (four weeks)      $400 (full day)      $200  (half day)
Session II:    June 30 – July 25    (four weeks)      $400 (full day)      $200  (half day)
Session III:   July 28 – August 8  (two weeks)       $200  (full day)     $100  (half day)

Payment for Session I is due at the time of registration, otherwise payment for sessions II and III must be made by the Friday prior to the start of each session.
(Session II Closed for 4th of July)
