My name is Chanesse Jones. I wish I was able to say that I am going to be a jumping junior at Liberty High School. Instead, I'll be going to Vista West in the fall.

My dad put me in the independent studies program in November because I kept getting harassed by the little clique of Liberty's plastics. We all know them -- they're the ones who cut in line at lunch. The ones who carry Gucci and Prada bags. The ones who every guy wants and every girl wants to be.

I never did. I used to be one of them.

My family is far from poor, but we spend our money differently. Instead of buying the hottest fashions we take family trips and buy old cars and fix them.

My punishment for being different was to be in solitude all this past school year. I did nothing to the members of the clique, but I got jumped by three girls and fractured my knee.

But now I realize that high school is the best place to be. When I left school I left so much. I abandoned my best friend to deal with them. Now I can't ever go back to Liberty. I don't get to experience a football game again, or a prom or formal.

For all of the students in similar situations to mine -- don't be stupid like me. If you find yourself in the same situation, don't give up, because that's what they want. Be yourself and be the best you can be. I'd say ignore them, but I know you can't. I know it hurts and it's embarrassing. So beat them at their own game. We all have classes with them, so get better grades. Don't get involved in their drama. Don't even give them the time of day.

If you are one of those girls, think about this: we are all the same when you take away the name-brand stuff. The girls who you scar for life will always be around, and you might need us one day.

I'm not letting the girls or Vista get me down. I've found the best boyfriend ever and I'm taking my CHSPE test in November. If I pass I'm joining the military to be like my four heroes -- Grandpa Don, my dad, my Nickolas and my papa.

Yes, I made mistakes, and maybe you have, too. But don't ever give up!
