My children's favorite meat pies

1 1⁄2 pounds ground round

1 tablespoon salt

1⁄2 tablespoon pepper

1 bay leaf

6 large carrots

8 large potatoes

1 large onion

6 cups water (or more if needed)

1 large can sweet peas, drained

Chop carrots, potatoes and onion very fine. Put all ingredients in a large pot, except sweet peas. No need to brown meat. Cook until carrots and potatoes are
tender. Last 20 minutes add the peas. If pie filling is too thin, thicken with corn starch. Filling will make three double-crust pies. Use homemade, frozen or refrigerated pie crust. Bake at 350 degrees until top crusts are light brown. Be sure to remove bay leaf before filling pie shells. These pies can be frozen either before or after baking. Recipe can also be adjusted to make fewer pies.
