So I’m just back from a hair show down in Long Beach.
Stylists: If you want to keep up on the latest trends and learn what’s new in hair, you’ve got to hit the shows every now and then.
I enjoy attending gatherings with other stylists who also want to be on the “cutting” edge of hair-styling.  And I really enjoy bringing that information back to my clients!
Want to know what’s new in hair color?
Here’s what I learned over the weekend: The big word at the Long Beach International Beauty Show, held Feb. 2 to 4, was shine — as in glossy, shining hair that will make your tresses glimmer.
There are now brilliant colors to lighten or deepen base colors, and even cover grays with multi-tonal, harmonizing highlights.
With highs and lows that give hair depth, movement, and fluidity, you can get that amazing, shiny look in your hair just like the celebrities walking those red carpet events.
Here are a few topics to discuss with your stylist when talking about coloring your hair:
• Do you want a few highlights or all-over color?
• Do you want to brighten or darken your hair or cover gray?
• How often can you visit the salon for hair color retouches?
A trained color stylist knows where to apply hair color to complement your head shape, features and give your haircut more versatility that will meet your needs and give you choices when styling your hair.
Remember, a great cut and color makes your hair its best and gives you that perfect mix for a great fashion look that’s yours alone.
Some hot trends in color I saw at the hair show include hot reds in bold, cinnamon hues, and also in fiery brick tones.
When thinking about how to get that super-shiny look in hair, I tell people to think of a hair strand like a shingle on a roof.
All of your hair strands represent all of the “shingles” on the roof of your head of hair, and good, quality hair color and/or certain conditioners smooth the surface of your “shingles” and give you that shine and gloss you crave.
Be sure to ask your stylist’s advice for what products will work best on your hair,  and about what to use on your own at home to keep that same shiny look.
Remember,  “shine” is the big word at the hair shows, so polish up your hair and polish up your look so you can shine, too!
