Boar’s Head Festival offered to community

St. John’s Lutheran Church is pleased to again bring the annual Boar’s Head Festival to our community. It is a joyous way to start off holiday celebrations. For many, it is an annual event not to be missed!
The Boar’s Head Festival is a medieval Christmas celebration, set in the middle ages in the court of King Wenceslaus. In this musical presentation, the king entertains his lords and ladies with a grand Christmas party. The medieval tradition of presenting a boar’s head to the king during a Christmas celebration is symbolic of good triumphing over evil.
The festival combines music, dancing and drama, and concludes with the retelling of the birth of Christ. Over 100 members of our congregation participate, including a choir, a full orchestra, and many other performers.
This is the 18th year that St. John’s is presenting the festival as a gift to the Bakersfield community.
This year, performances will be held on Friday, Dec. 1, at 7:30 p.m.; Saturday, Dec. 2, at 4:30 and 7:30 p.m.; and Sunday, Dec. 3, at 4:30 p.m. at St. John’s Lutheran Church, 4500 Buena Vista Road, one mile south of White Lane.
