Liberty JV Softball takes the Centennial Tournament

0 responses 0 comments Liberty High School's JV Girls Softball team won the Centennial Tournament, played on March 18 and 19.

Liberty had to first win its "pool" on Friday night. It did so by first beating Taft 6-0 with Jenny
Zavolosieck pitching. The key hit was a bases-loaded single by Janine McCormick. In the second game, Jessica Whitty threw a no-hitter in an 11-0 win. In the final game of the evening, Liberty started a third pitcher, Lauren Romero, who threw the third shutout of the evening in a 6-0 win.

Bracket play began Saturday morning with a game against Stockdale's JV, who were second in their pool play. Liberty won the game 7-0 behind the pitching of Jenny Zavolosieck.

Liberty advanced to the second game of bracket play and faced tournament host Centennial. Liberty broke the game open in the fourth inning using the long ball. Christy Bushby had a triple followed by homeruns from Danielle Nickelberry, Jenny Zavolosieck and Courtney Hockett. This brought the score to 10 - 0 and ended the game.

In the championship game, Liberty faced Bakersfield High School. Jenny Zavolosieck continued to pitch in her third game of the day. Liberty kept the offensive pressure on throughout the game. The game ended on a Jenny Whitty two-run homerun, which made the score 10-1
and ended the game.

This was the second year in a row that the Liberty JV won the Centennial Tournament.
