They're doing it in Chicago. They're loving it in New York. Los Angeles, London and Rome all are getting into the swing of this new wave of dating. It's called speed dating, and two Kern County women are now bringing the craze right to your doorstep.
Marcephne Speed Dating was founded by myself and Marcela Solorio. We decided to bring this new, delightful way of dating to the Kern County area because there is a need. I moved to Bakersfield in October, and one of the first questions I asked Marcela was, "Where do I meet people?" She took me to a few places, but I'm not into the bar scene.
Marcephne Speed Dating is geared toward singles who are tired of the bar scene, tried blind dates, and even tossed in their profile on online dating. Now, they want something else. Marcephne caters to those who want a sure-fire way to meet interesting people in a no-pressure, fun-filled, classy atmosphere. "The response is surprising. I think because the town needs something like this," said co-founder Solorio. "The response has been enormous ... non-stop. The people we have personally approached sign up immediately."
"The majority of our participants are busy professionals -- people who value their time. The reality is you, like most of our participants, have little trouble building a relationship with someone you know, but simply don't have the time to meet people in the first place!" said Solorio. Our events solve this dilemma by helping you meet many new people in a short time and in a fun, no-pressure way. Also, our participants are people who aren't comfortable with, or just tired of, many of the traditional dating approaches. Marcephne Speed Dating events are open to all single professionals, although on occasion we have special events for people desiring to meet those sharing a similar affinity, interest or background.
The concept of Marcephne Speed Dating is based on the principle that one should leave no stone unturned ... and everyone should have a fun, care-free adventure when looking for that special someone.
How does it work? Well, Marcephne daters have 15 dates in one evening. Each date lasts for three minutes. Remember, you're not on a date, you're on a Marcephne speed date! Speed dating is a great way to see if you'd be interested in a full date or just more conversation later. Sometimes three minutes is way too long, if you know what we mean. But in three minutes most people can tell if there's physical chemistry, if they like the way someone speaks, if the person is mature and intelligent, and if they want to know more. At which point they'd select YES on the Marcephne match sheet, and hopefully the other person would do the same! If there is mutual interest, then Marcephne will inform the daters -- and it's up to them to take it to the next level ... an extended date. I participated in a speed dating event in Beijing, China, while I lived there. I tell you, it was so much fun. I met 15 men I probably would never have a chance to meet. It was great ... we laughed, talked. I walked away with a feeling of excitement and contentment. It was one of the best evenings I had had in a long time.
Solorio has never taken part, as a client, in speed dating, as she proudly carries the "bling bling" of an engagement ring. But, she says, "If I was single ... I would definitely do this. In fact, I am jealous of my clients who have the opportunity to meet so many fun people in one night!"
