At a meeting Feb. 8,
Kern High School District board members tied 2 to 2 on a new boundary plan for the district to make room for the newest high school,
Frontier High, leaving the issue up in the air until another vote.
Trustees
Sam Thomas and
Chad Vegas did not support the plan as it stood and wanted Frontier doors opened for east Norris students. Trustees
Larry Starrh and
Bob Hampton supported the plan and voted against changing it.
Board president
Connie Wattenbarger, though not present at the meeting, wrote a letter in support of
Superintendent Don Carter's plan, saying it placed the district in the best position for growth.
If trustees maintain their positions, the tie-breaking vote is in her hands.
The next meeting is open to the public and will take place Feb. 22 at 5 p.m. in the Kern High School District boardroom, 5801 Sundale Avenue.
The
Rosedale Union School District plans to break ground sometime next month on a new elementary school on Verdugo Lane south of Brimhall Road. The 12-acre, $10 million campus will hold about 600 students. The district is hoping to build about seven new campuses by 2015 to keep up with the growth. The schools, including the school on Verdugo, will be paid for by funds from the
Community Facilities District's Mello-roos bonds and state matching funds. The money for Mello-roos bonds is collected from people who buy new homes in the area.
