There are several ways to win these tickets:

Become a Web site user. Sign up by clicking HERE from 9/24-10/1 and you will be entered into the drawing to win a 4-pack of tickets!
Collect FIVE (5) new NorthwestVoice.com web site users. Get 5 people to sign-up as a "User" on our Web site (co-workers, neighbors, church, family members, sports team parents), then have each of those 5 people send me an email naming YOU as their "sponsor." The first person to do this will get a family pack of tickets (a $40 value!). Or...
Collect FIVE (5) new subscriptions to the free Northwest Voice magazine. The new subscribers MUST subscribe online (because of time constraints), and MUST put the word "FRIGHT" in the field that asks for "Phone number." You can collect the names at work, school, sports practices, church, or anywhere, and enter them online yourself! Then, as the "sponsor," please send me an email with the names of the new subscribers that should be credited to you. The first person to (5) gets the free tickets ($40 value!).

The tickets are for opening night, October 2, so don't wait! Find your subscribers or Web site users TODAY! The tickets go to the first and second person to meet the goal in each category. In the event you can't get all 5, send me the email, anyway, and you might win a consolation prize (wink).

The Stone Family Vacation and the Voice was there!

The Stone family went on a family vacation to our old stomping grounds at Laguna Beach, California. This picture features my step-daughters, my husband and myself. This particular morning in July we enjoyed a fabulous breakfast at the Beach House over looking the ocean. We were so delighted to have taken the Voice with us!

Youth Athlete of the Month Nominating Wade Froehlich

I am nominating my son Wade Froehlich because of his amazing dedication to a sport that gets very little recognition. He practices year round on a Boys Gymnastics Team at American Kids Sports Center. His dedication to the sport amazes me. He loves all sports and does his best to juggle Flag Football and Baseball while continuing his year round sport. Most importanlty he has been a loving and caring son, a great student at school and church, and a wonderful example for his younger brother and sister. We are so very proud of him. We love you....Papa, Mama, Jake and Nicoletta !

Youth Athlete of the Month Aiden Faulconer

Aiden Faulconer is 5 1/2 years old and this was his first year swimming for RBG Swim Team. Aiden enjoyed swimming the Breaststroke, Butterfly and Freestyle. He always would swim with a smile and cheered for his friends. Aiden also enjoys playing baseball for Southwest Baseball League and can hardly wait until he is old enough to play football. We are very proud of the effort he brings to any sport and positive attitude he has towards his teammates.

Take The Voice on Vacation: To the Spiral Jetty

Recently I had the chance to visit my sister in Salt Lake City. For a few years now I've know about Robert Smithson's Spiral Jetty and have been dying to see it ever since. My sister thought it would be neat to see so off we went.

One of the neat things about this sculpture is that it is never the same. Some years the water is higher than others, and if you browse through photos of it you can see that the water color changes. It was amazing and beautiful! Though it was quite and adventure to actually make it to the jetty, it was compeltely worth it!

Athlete of the Month Winner: Kody Wright

Kody Wright, 11, has been playing travel baseball for over two years. In a recent tournament, Kody batted .555 for the weekend, including two doubles and three walks. Defensively, he played catcher for 11 innings — in one day — and had an out at home that involved a collision preventing the opposing team from scoring; he had no errors and five outs defensively. Kody maintained a 4.0 GPA for his first two semesters at Centennial Elementary. We are most proud of the effort and positive attitude that Kody brings to any situation.

Sally Wang and Mason Trueblood traveled to Las Vegas to represent Bakersfield at the West Coast Dance Explosion National Competition. The two dancers are from Civic Dance Center's performing company Troupe Civic. They were a part of the Elite program that performed behind R&B artist Deborah Cox at the Gala. They also competed for the national senior title. Sally was awarded 2nd runner up, out of 32 ladies. Both dancers received year-long scholarships to the dance convention for the 2009 season.

We went on vacation to Santee Lakes in Santee, near San Diego. Our campsite was right on lake 6 and you would usually catch me sitting in a chair, fishing, and reading. The Northwest Voice was a great read...as always.

Pati Jones for Educator of the Month

We want to nominate Pati Jones for Educator of the month. She has been our swim teacher for three years (she is also a first grade teacher at San Lauren). She has taught me a lot about swimming and how to be safe in the pool. She is a really good teacher because she taught me how to swim in the deep end without my life jacket. She also lets me dive down and get the rings. We can both jump off "the rock" and swim to the side now. She really improved our swimming!
