I thought I knew what tough days were until I just lived the worst couple days of my life. I am ever so grateful to be alive. Let me try and re-enact my life these past couple days.....
Friday morning I woke up with a very sore back. I thought, oh no I hope this isn’t what I think it is. I...

As I am coming close to my 16th birthday [august 23rd!!], I am also coming very close to another milestone in my life; my drivers license.
Now, I know the typical adult response, "EVERYONE STAY OFF THE SIDEWALKS" and "Looks like I will not be driving...

Get a stretcher.
The morning of Day 3, I couldn't get out of bed. Day 2's activities (the weights, hill climbing, rubber bands, push ups, jump ropes, lunges, medicine ball, squats, and presses) took a toll on me. It is at this moment, as I'm struggling to pull the sheet gently off my...

I don't know if I can keep up this pace.
That can mean anything: this pace with my daily journal or this pace in my Volkslauf training.
Today, it was circuit training --in a strength sort of way. It wasn't supposed to be a cardio workout, yet there was a lot of running involved....

We thumbed our noses at the price of gas this summer and hit the road to Montana. My wife's daughter, her husband, and three grandkids live in Bozeman. We visit there frequently, and we always drive. The main reason for driving is that I hate to fly. There is nothing about...

"What was I thinking?"
That was my first thought as I saw about 30 people (of around 50 total) removing their running shoes to soak themselves in a swimming pool to "lower the body temperature" before the start of our collective training session outside of Total Woman near...

I have been bored. I've taken quite a few pictures this summer, but not as many as I took last summer when I first got the camera. I've run out of things to blog about, so I'm going to post a bunch of pictures instead.
I'm not sure who I am anymore. I took pictures first, I think. I tried taking...

This weekend we went camping. Before you grow envious, realize that it was only for one day. These are the steps we followed to camp for one day:
took trailer out of storage, cleaned it, prepped it
loaded trailer with enough food & drinks for 2 weekends
packed enough...

My son Armand hasn't spent as much time riding a bike as I did as a kid — but times are different, and so is our lifestyle. However, this summer he spent two weeks with his grandparents who excitedly decided to teach Armand how to ride a two-wheeler. It was a great plan as far...

I wrote about this in a blog on Bakersfield.com and it was printed in the paper last week on Saturday.
On February 21 of this year, my 14 year old daughter told me she was pregnant. I think in the next 5 days I felt every emotion imagineable to a human. Anger, guilt, frustration,...

Hello, my name is Elka Wyatt. I was not born here but I was raised in Bakersfield. I moved away a few times...but have always come home to Bakersfield. I recently moved to a home in the Northwest and really love it out this way. I certainly do not miss the chaotic and...

Does anyone really know how to bake a perfect potato? I just googled it, and it turns out that you aren't supposed to use foil (sorry, Mom!). The foil instantly makes it a steamed (not baked) potato, and completely changes the texture.
Just f.y.i. :)
