I CAN'T SLEEP!
For the past 2 - 3 years, I have been having problems sleeping. At night, when everyone else is snuggled in their beds, I am thinking of things to do the following day, or things I should have done. I get up numerous times to read, watch television, get a glass of milk, but to no avail........I AM STILL AWAKE! Several months ago, I decided to switch sides of the bed with my husband. For several weeks, it helped. It was all a placebo! I am not changing back due to the fact that my husband is sleeping better now. During the day, I get so tired that I can't sit for too long or I will fall asleep. At night, I tell myself that I am going to sleep better since I am so tired. Guess what? I am at our kitchen table now blogging, so that positive thinking technique didn't work. I have tried sleeping aids; however, I don't want my body to become so dependent on them; however, I believe that I need to do something since the brain cells that I have left aren't being replenished by R.E.M. sleep. Anybody have any advice? OR if you have trouble sleeping too, maybe we can start a support group. Our meetings would be short, since we all would need to nap. 1 comments from 1 users

Hi there! Your title instantly grabbed my attention, because I also have major sleeping problems. Mine is due to the Lupus medication I am on, and it has been one year since I began taking the meds. I have become a regular viewer of 2am television, finishing books at 4am, and basically hating the wee hours. The teachers I work with know my problem and I think they can sense when to steer clear of me!! I mean, can you be super chipper on 3 hours of sleep?? I purchased a sound machine from Wal-Mart and play "rain" when it's time to sleep... although like your mattress-switching experience, I think the month or two of snore-sessions simply turned out to be a placebo. It's worth a try, though. They sell the machines for $20 and are located in the CD-section (it comes with an arrangement of 7 sounds). Lately, fed up with dark circles and bags, I have been taking two OTC sleeping tablets. They work, but as you said, I don't want to become dependent on them. However, it was been lovely getting 8 hours of sleep. Perhaps try that a couple of times a week, or just Friday-Sunday? Another thing I do when I'm up is pray. I talk to God and I find that I tend to drift off when I'm done... It's His way of ending our conversation - blessing me with rest. I have found that to be the most comforting, so if you're a believer, I'd try that route first. Good luck and hopefully, Sweet Dreams!
