Almost totally relaxing one day mini vacation
Yesterday I spent the day with all three of my sisters at the 3rd Street Promenade in Santa Monica.

After a little morning sister drama we headed out on our little adventure. We swapped funny stories from when we were kids, caught up a little and acted goofy.

Chere: I was driving back from Auntie Linda's and I was in the L.A. traffic and I looked over and there are four guys in a car with Power Ranger masks on.

Yep. Stuff like that.

Speaking of traffic. Talk about horrendous! Jeeze! I could never live in L.A. No wonder Crazy Aunt Purl takes public transportation everywhere.

So our first stop on the way there was Wildfiber. Yep. Gotta have yarn wherever I go! You should go to the link and see how nice and big and open and wonderful that store is. It's like knitters heaven. Really.

On our way there Andrea said that she wanted a knitted bikini. She and her friends are going on a cruise and they saw these Ashley Paige knitted bikinis online for well over $200! Andrea's friend said, "If I knew how to knit, I would make bikinis and sell them for $200 too, shoot." So when we got there we began looking for patterns and it was really random hit and miss. So, I asked for help — like a knitting shop pro — and was directed to several books. Guess what? Ashley Paige has a knitting book: Sexy Little Knits. It is full of bikinis and other cute stuff. I bought the book and Andrea picked out some yarn for her Jamaican inspired bikini. We got ggh Goa in green, yellow and off-white. A-hem... $58 later... It will be a good birthday present though.

The whole thing was pretty funny, at least to me because me and Matt had just been talking about how knitted bikinis are really in. Well first we spotted one on the cover of an Orange County Alt. Press magazine that he had picked up for research before launching Bakotopia the print edition. Matt said they were also very popular and fashionable at Cochella.

Then we went to CPK and had some food. We hung out on the promenade for a few more hours and shopped. Well actually Andrea mostly shopped since none of us had any money. Paula and I sat outside a lot. We listened to parts of peoples conversations and people watched. She drank coffee.

Guy on his cell phone: "There's no pressure for you to wear shoes. You could just wear flip flops because everyone will be like 'hey he's from California, he's wearing flip flops.' There's more pressure on us because we're actually in the wedding."

Girl on her cell phone: "Yeah, he's thinking about moving into the rehab place right next door to me."

Then at 5:30 p.m. we got in the car to leave.

So I got lost in Santa Monica for 30 minutes trying to find my way back to the 10. I was flipped off, called foul names and honked at a bazillion times. I felt like the biggest idiot in the world trying to find my way around there. I was so stressed out that I was shaking and about to cry.

I could never live in a city with such mean people. I'm glad I live in Bakersfield.

Funny and sad.  I shuttle back and forth between Bakersfield and Orange County almost every week.  This week I picked up my grandmother (who lives in Orange County) so that she can visit for a spell.  She had just seen a doctor who asked her where she was visiting.  After she told him "Bakersfield" he commented, "Why in the heck would you want to visit there?"  She told him about us poor saps who live here and he said, "you know, every time I drive through Bakersfield, I always wonder why anyone would want to live here." Well, I am thinking maybe I should get you two together...

California is grand, it is wild, sometimes unfair, other times too fair- to un-restrictive, and very often is just California, a very unique place no matter where you are. I enjoyed your post. I have seemed to have somewhat similar experiences to Santa Monica which I go to more often because of my many trips to the Veterans Administration Hospital. I have never wanted a knitted string bikini because I have a really bad bikini line, I also don't look that great wearing one.
I have seem many men wearing them in Venice Beach though.
I am getting ready to move out of Rosedale into the area near Ashe & Ming. I don't know what it is called yet. I have been too busy to even find out. I do need to meet about a million new friends because I am moving because of separation/divorce as my spouse decided that an affair was in her future and I was not.
Now I want new friends, none of her friends will do, especially since many knew.
I also want to bet back into writing more often, and I definitely want to learn Spanish!
