Not what I expected...

A little over a year ago my husband and I decided that we wanted to have a baby. Except that it wasn't just that easy. So we went through fertility treatments and then gave up when that didn't work. So we were very surprised in January to learn that we were going to be graced with our first child. I was so excited, scared and freaked out.

And then I got sick. Really really sick. I had to quit law school.

I have a condition called hyperemesis gravidarum which causes an extreme form of morning sickness. I'm just over 14 weeks and still sicker than I've ever been in my entire life. I've been so sick that I had to go on 24/7 home IV care. Instead of gaining weight, I've lost 14 pounds. So I guess you could say that pregnancy wasn't exactly what expected it to be. It's been scary and emotional trying.

I am still excited, but so ready for this to be over too. I know this isn't a permanent condition, but it is one of the hardest things I've ever gone through.

So that's what's been going on with me for the last 8 weeks since I dropped off the map.

Yikes!  Hopefully the sickness will die down after the first trimester is over.  Keep your fingers crossed.  You'll need as much rest as you can get before the new one arrives.  Congratulations!
