On racism and feeling fat...
I'm always surprised when people my age have even the slightest hint of racism or bias again women, blonds, etc.
I guess in some ways I just accept it from older people. I figure their parents indoctrinated them and they can't help it. However, when it comes from someone my own age, I am always surprised. Maybe I listened to too much "We are the World" and "I have a dream" as a kid. I just thought people my age were beyond that. I suppose that I also expect that because I'm a fairly independent and critical thinker that all people my age would be the same way. So when one of them starts spouting off rhetoric from FOX news, I just get completely taken aback. Alright. I'm done with that subject. Now for something completely different. I have a point of order to be brought up with fashion designers. I went shopping this weekend for clothes and it was depressing. I am not a huge girl. Sure I could use to drop a few pounds, but so can just about everyone I know. First of all, just because cap sleeves and tank tops are in, doesn't mean everyone and their mom wants to wear them! Some of us are not too excited about their arm fat and would prefer to cover it up. So do you think it would be possible to offer some alternatives for the rest of us? Also, I know it is summer and everything, but do you think you could make pants and shorts with a little bit more substantial fabric? Us women don't need help accentuating the cottage cheese areas on our thighs. Something a little thicker won't be too much more hot and it won't highlight the little ripples. Well that's about it for today. 3 comments from 3 users

Right now I'm seeking out ways to express human solidarity in the hopes of contradicting racism. There needs to be a stronger representation of the bigger picture! posted by

Unfortunately racism comes at us from all directions. Society is sometimes considered racist because of our melting pot.
Where on earth have all races, religions, and nationalities mixed and there was peace? African-Americans remember the past. The injustice done to them (real and TRUE racism,) has not just been forgotten because the ruling class has said "I'm sorry." white and black Americans feel discriminated against anytime they cannot apply for a job because the ad says "bilingual only," which might as well read, "whites and Blacks need not apply." Would someone who spoke English and Dutch be considered for the job the same way someone who speaks Spanish and English? I don't think so.
